What is Radio?

Why is Radio important?

Radio is still important because of the effect its has on people around England, people nearly always have the radio on where ever it is you go. It still has an extremely wide community of listeners, ranging from all different ages and people would always like to tune in, whether it be for everyday news or for new releases in music which is the reason I still listen to radio.

What are the different genres of radio?

Some of the different genres of radio are: Children's radio, which focuses mainly on things that children are able to enjoy. Comedy stations which is for broadcasting things such as skits or stand up. Drama stations which is for things like crime stories or fantasy stories. Entertainment, which is for shows that are of variety. Factual which is for made up stories that people listen to for short entertainment. Learning channels, which is for life tips or teaching kids simple things. Music Channels, which are the most tuned into channels which focuses mostly on music and a little bit of news. News channels which focus mainly on the events that have happened throughout the week. Sport channels which focus mainly on sport news and updates that fans of the sports in there country will listen to. The final type of news broadcast is the weather which is simply a channel for the weather that is coming up in the week.


What do you and your family listen to?

Me and my family listen to music channels mainly unless there is something is happening in the area. Some of the radio channels we listen to is Kerrang! which the majority of us listen to us but also Capital FM because of the carrying music preferences throughout us all. Usually we listen to these in the morning or throughout the day at a none specific time. We listen to these radio stations because we enjoy the music that is played on them and the small news segments that are played.


How can people access the radio?

People can access the radio using an actual radio that you tune yourself into whatever station you would like. Most people nowadays though listen to the radio using there phones which have apps for the specific radio stations. Some people also listen to radio stations using the internet by going to that website.


What is public service radio?

Public service radio is radio that is broadcasted to anybody that wants to listen and is completely free. It features music broadcasts as well as news. It is funded by people that tune into the station and from people that pay taxes.


What is commercial Radio?

Commercial radio is radio that plays adverts throughout its playtime as well as playing news, music or any other genre of radio. It earns it funding by the adverts that are played throughout its run time which gives them money from the people that they are advertising for.


What is local radio?

Local radio is radio that is only played in certain areas because it directs news towards the location it is in, most of the radio shows will only be played within a certain distance out of the area. It is also known as regional radio.
